It’s a rare sight to see some customers buying RAM and completely forgetting about this purchase, but consumers were likely the last market that would have anticipated the memory shortage , and in light of recent events, a vacation home owner suddenly remembered that he had three premium G.SKILL Trident Z5 Royal Neo kits purchased in early 2025 for $717. Now, they cost a small fortune.
The post might have been deleted by Redditor “jmg5,” but not before we managed to take a screenshot of the three G.SKILL Trident Z5 Royal Neo 8,000MT/s RAM kits he placed side by side. The kits on the left and right are the 32GB versions, which the owner says he paid $214.99 for each. As for the one in the center, that’s a 48GB kit, operating at the same 8,000MT/s, but he paid $287 for it.
During the weekend, the Redditor dropped by his vacation home and intended to assemble a gaming PC featuring AMD’s latest and greatest Ryzen 9 9950X3D, and he would have had to fork over $1,000+ for each of the G.SKILL Trident Z5 Royal Neo RAM kits if he hadn’t taken the leap of faith and purchased them sooner. Thankfully, his bet paid off because where AI customers have snagged the available shipments, regular customers are left high and dry, trying to secure their own purchases at inflated prices.

There’s no confirmation as to why the Redditor deleted his post, but it’s possible he thought it was in bad taste. Since he writes “just to add to the pain,” and given that each of these RAM kits now costs over $1,000, it’s just rubbing salt in the wounds. He also thought that there were thousands who weren’t fortunate enough to purchase memory sticks before the shortage engulfed global markets, so he probably didn’t want other Redditors to feel bad.
Just to remind you, if you search for a 32GB G.SKILL Trident Z5 Royal Neo 8,000MT/s RAM kit on Amazon, it’ll set you back a whopping $1,079.99 .
