Intel 13th Gen Core “Raptor Lake-S” CPUs to support DDR4 memory

Intel will not be removing DDR4 memory support with Alder Lake successor

According to Moore’s Law is Dead, Intel is retaining support for DDR4 memory with the (now) upcoming Raptor Lake series.

The YouTuber who has correctly revealed Intel confidential information in advance has now confirmed that Raptor Lake is to support DDR4 memory. This means that the Alder Lake successor which is to keep the LGA1700 socket is more than likely to be compatible with all existing Z690 and future H670/B660/H610 motherboards which already support DDR4 memory.

This is not exactly a surprising development, as Raptor Lake is simply a core bump over Alder Lake. The 13th Gen Core series is to offer twice as many Gracemont (small) cores over Alder Lake.

This information comes at the same time as we expect AMD to share details on its future AM5 platform for next-gen Raphael CPUs. It is still unclear if this next-gen AMD platform will support DDR5 technology exclusively or rather extend the life of DDR4 memory by allowing some of the future AM5 CPUs to support it.

Raptor Lake will support DDR4.

Some people might say "duh", but I have seen a conspiracy theory going around that Intel would obsolete DDR4 mobos when Raptor Lake launches. No, they won't.

Rest easy DDR4 Alder Lake buyers 😊.

Intel 13th Gen Core “Raptor Lake-S” is confirmed to offer as many as 24 cores (8P+16E) in similar TDP ranges of 125W, 65W, and 35W for desktop environments. The series is also to be used for mobile devices, but the specifications of the Alder Lake-P/M successor remain unconfirmed.

Intel Raptor Lake is now scheduled to launch in late 2022, possibly around the time AMD launches its Zen4 architecture.
