Intel Core i7-12800H “Alder Lake-P” CPU is 25% faster than Ryzen 7 5800H in Geekbench single-core test

Intel Core i7-12800H also comes with 14-cores

Intel’s upcoming 12th Gen Core high-end gaming CPU lineup for laptops is pretty much known at this point, as a third SKU with the same configuration leaks through Geekbench.

Another Alder Lake-P part has just been leaked by the Gigabyte engineering team, who apparently is testing AORUS 15 YE4 gaming laptop with Geekbench software. Fortunately for us, somebody forgot to unplug the Internet access, which means we have a partial confirmation on the specs of this unreleased Intel CPU.

Surprisingly, this is the third known Alder Lake-P CPU with the exact same configuration of cores and threads, which is 14-cores and 20-threads . This means that the part offers 6 Performance (Golden Cove) cores and 8 Efficient (Gracemont), a full configuration for this silicon, but this also means that we now have Core i9-12900HK, i7-12700H, and now i7-12800H with the same configurations.

The Geekbench software version used by Gigabyte does not recognize Alder Lake turbo clocks correctly, which is why it reports on 28.3 GHz. The base clock, on the other hand, appears to be 2.8 GHz, so just 100 MHz lower than Core i9-12900H.

The CPU has been tested on Windows 11 powered AORUS 15 YE4 (where “E” in Gigabyte product naming scheme stands for 12th Gen series). The CPU scored 1654 points in the single-core test and 9618 points in the multi-core . This means that the CPU is respectively 12% and 20% faster than Tiger Lake-H CPU known as Core i7-11800H with 8 cores and 16 threads. In comparison to AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, the CPU is 25% and 37% faster respectively. Both the i7-11800H and R7-5800H are the most commonly used CPUs by laptop makers for high-end gaming systems.

Intel is now expected to launch its 12th Gen Core Alder Lake-P mobile lineup at CES 2022 in January. As the leak confirms, laptop makers are already testing the CPUs ahead of launch, which suggests next-gen gaming laptops might be available at the launch of Intel’s new platform.
