AMD 6nm RDNA2 mobile GPU refresh to be called “Radeon RX 6000S”?

AMD Radeon RX 6000S allegedly coming, AMD’s own SUPER?

We received interesting information about the rumored RDNA2 GPU refresh for laptops.

The new series based on refreshed RDNA2 architecture is to be called “ AMD Radeon™ RX 6000S Mobile Graphics” , claims Disclosuzen. It is the same source that already provided confidential information in the past, most recently AMD 4800S Desktop Kit .

It should be noted first that AMD has not even launched its RX 6500M and RX 6300M graphics yet, which just recently appeared in a driver . For this reason, a mobile refresh of the entire stack should not be expected.

But what exactly does RDNA2 refresh mean? It was alleged by Greymon55 that AMD could be refreshing its Navi 2X GPUs with TSMC N6 process technology, and such GPUs could be part of the next-gen Radeon RX 7000 series for desktop. It is still unclear how many GPUs is AMD planning to refresh using a smaller node or if they are going to be used for laptops as well. For now, we only have pieces of information from various sources that still need to be stitched together.

AMD RDNA2 TSMC N6 refresh should improve power efficiency and clock speeds compared to the N7 process technology. According to TSMC, it is to offer 18% higher logic density over the N7 process. It is fully compatible with N7 process technology which simplifies the transition to the smaller node. It should also improve yields and shorten production cycles. The same process will be used by Intel Arc Alchemist GPUs.

Should AMD launch the Radeon RX 6000S series, they would likely debut alongside Ryzen 6000 “Rembrandt” series early next year. AMD mobile GPUs would not be the only new chips for next-gen laptops, as both NVIDIA (RTX 3080TI/3070Ti) and Intel (Arc Alchemist) are planing their new discrete GPUs for laptops for Q1 launch as well.
