ASRock’s latest BIOS features ‘Enhanced Thermal Velocity Boost’ for the upcoming Core i9-12900KS CPU

The upcoming Intel Core i9-12900KS flagship Alder Lake processor is to feature ‘Enhanced Thermal Velocity Boost’ according to the latest BIOSes deployed by ASRock.

Intel Thermal Velocity Boost is a technology that unlocks higher frequency depending on a workload and cooling solution. It increases the core frequency when the processor is in pre-specified temperature or lower, and there is still a turbo boost budget available.

Intel Alder Lake CPUs support Thermal Velocity Boost, which is available as an option through some motherboard BIOSes, however, it is not part of the official specifications, which was the case for the 11th Gen Core series.

According to the latest patches for ASRock Intel 600 series motherboards, an Enhanced Thermal Velocity Boost option is being added specifically for the upcoming Core i9-12900KS processor.

This SKU has not officially been announced by Intel yet, however, the company teased a new 12th Gen Core KS-Series processor with a max turbo boost up to 5.5 GHz during its CES news conference. According to Intel, this processor will offer an all-core boost at 5.2 GHz (naturally in this case all-core applies to Performance cores only).

This flagship desktop part is to ship by the end of this quarter, but sadly only to OEMs. Intel has not declared if this part will ever be available through the DIY market.
