Intel is building a new team to develop low-power GPU architectures

The company puts a job offer for a senior hardware design engineer in the UK.

In Swindon UK, Intel is building a new team for Graphics Processor Unit development. The job offer specifically mentions low-power GPU architectures for next-generation portable computing, but this does not necessarily mean GPU architectures for upcoming CPUs.

With such a small distance to London, Intel might be trying to poach some engineering from competing firms such as ARM (Cambridge, UK) or Imagination Technologies PowerVR (Kings Langley, UK).

Right now, Intel relies on its Xe-LP architecture for low-power devices, such as Alder Lake or Tiger Lake CPUs. With the new team being assembled right now, it may take a few years before we see the fruits of their labor.
