Intel confirms 15th Gen Core “Arrow Lake”, Xeon “Granite Rapids” and “Sierra Forest” 2024 series

Intel confirms Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake

During Intel’s Investor’s Meeting 2022, the company’s CEO Pat Gelsinger confirmed three product series planned for the 2024 launch.

For the first time, Intel confirmed Arrow Lake will succeed Meteor Lake as a client product (Intel Core series). This is a 2024 product that will most likely utilize the same platform as Meteor Lake. The company plans to market Arrow Lake as the 15th Gen Core series, which confirms a year-to-year product release for consumers.

Intel Arrow Lake will utilize three process nodes: Intel 4, Intel 20A, and External N3 technology. For Lunar Lake, which supposedly launches in 2024+ (so 2025?), the company confirmed it will utilize Intel 18A and unnamed external technology.

Granite Rapids and Sierra Forest

Intel server processor series will see its development course into Performance and Efficient cores in 2024. Intel today confirmed the 2024 Granite Rapids and Sierra Forest series.

The former will succeed 2024 Emerald Rapids while Sierra Forest will be a new segment featuring Efficient cores exclusively. In other words, Xeon CPUs codenamed “Sierra Forest” will not utilize hybrid architecture but instead feature only one type of core. A somewhat similar approach to AMD Zen4 “Genoa/Bergamo” EPYC CPU series one should note.

According to Intel Granite Rapids and Sierra Forest will be manufactured using Intel 3 process technology.

  • Emerald Rapids: In 2023, Intel will deliver Emerald Rapids, the next-generation P-core processor on the Intel 7 process node. The processor will be a socket-compatible refresh to Sapphire Rapids, improving performance and extending the memory and security benefits in the existing platform, providing an easily adoptable and valuable upgrade for Intel’s customers.
  • Sierra Forest : As part of this new strategy, Intel presented for the first time details of Sierra Forest,[GA1] its new E-core-based Xeon processor for the data center. It will deliver performance-per-watt efficiency and unmatched density that bolsters total cost of ownership benefit. This new product, slated for 2024, is designed for the needs of Intel’s hyperscale customers as a purpose-built solution with a uniquely optimized core for cloud workloads.
  • Granite Rapids : Reinforcing its confidence in the health of the Intel 3 process node, Intel announced that it will upgrade Granite Rapids from Intel 4 to the Intel 3 process. This next-generation P-core Xeon product comes in 2024 and will solidify Intel’s leadership in the industry.

Intel does not name the Next-Gen Xeon series yet, but those should be Diamond Rapids.
