Elon Musk wants Steam games to work on AMD Navi-23 powered Tesla infotainment system

Steam games might make their way to the Tesla infotainment system

Elon Musk’s team is working on bringing Steam games to work in Tesla cars.

Steam’s extensive library of games might become available on the Tesla infotainment system at some point in the future. Elon Musk confirmed that his team has been working on either supporting the Steam games or rather focusing on specific titles only. Naturally, the first option would be a lot more interesting, considering that Steam has a 50,000 game library.

Valve has been working around the clock to bring support for as many games as possible for its handheld Steam Deck console, which is based on Linux. This fact alone should make Tesla’s team choice a lot simpler because it ensures compatibility with a very wide range of games. Furthermore, both consoles are based on AMD RDNA2 architecture which limits the time required for graphics drivers to work.

We’re working through the general case of making Steam games work on a Tesla vs specific titles. Former is obviously where we should be long-term.

Tesla’s updated infotainment system features a 17-inch screen with 2200×1300 resolution. It is powered by Navi 23 GPU delivers up to 10 TFLOPs of power. The exact configuration of the chip is unknown though, but the Navi 23 GPU is rumored to feature 28 Compute Units clocked up to 2.8 GHz. A teardown video released last year confirmed that Tesla’s new dashboard is powered by Ryzen Embedded CPU (likely Zen+) which is a quad-core CPU.

The company plans to update the Tesla Arcade system for Model X, Model S, and Cybertruck, the latter now set to hit the market in 2023.
