Is this AMD's real answer to DLSS?

AMD's reportedly revealing FidelityFX Super Resolution's successor soon
Last week, we discussed AMD's plans to showcase a " next-generation image upscaling technology " at GDC 2022, and according to CapFrameX , the creator of the framerate/frametime analysis tool of the same name, that technology is FSR 2.0.
CapFrameX has reportedly seen footage that showcases AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 (FSR 2.0) technology that was "very impressive", confirming that the technology does not use the same spatial upscaling techniques as FSR 1.0. FSR 2.0 is reportedly a temporal image upscaling solution, making AMD's FSR 2.0 like Nvidia's DLSS 2.0 technology in some regards.
If CapFrameX's information is correct, AMD's FSR 2.0 technology can deliver "impressive performance and image quality" as well as the ability to deliver "better than native" levels of image quality in some cases. Better still, FSR 2.0 reportedly runs on GPUs from all vendors, not requiring AI acceleration to operate. FSR 2.0 will not be an AMD-only technology.

If FSR 2.0 is a temporal upscaling solution, it will be more challenging to integrate into games to AMD's existing FSR 1.0 technology. FSR 1.0 is a post processing upscaling technology that can be used on already rendered frames to upscale them. FSR 2.0 will replace a game's anti-aliasing solution and will use temporal data from prior frames to help deliver high quality image upscaling. This means that FSR 2.0 will require deeper integration than FSR 1.0.
AMD has stated previously that they planned to take their FidelityFX Super Resolution technology in several directions, and that FSR 1.0 was designed to be easy to integrate and utilise. If todays information is correct, FSR 2.0 will take FSR in a new direction, hopefully providing higher levels of image quality at the cost of additional development/integration time. With FSR, developers will have a choice between FSR 1.0 and 2.0, both of which have advantages.

KingNosser| All this screams at is there next GPUs probably will have 0 AI instructions which in turn means it'll still only have RT cores. Remains to be seen if that's the right move. |
If you thought prices were high now lol just wait. Quote

NeverBackDownIf AMD continue to try to win on rasterization they will be continuing down the same path they have been for over a decade. Not being 1st. DLSS is only going to get better and more applicable. Every time it does it hurts AMDs positioning on the market. If a for example 4060 competes with a 7800xt, you could bet what people would end up buying. This is of course a more extreme but it's not without the realm of possibility. Not to mention Intel is coming in and seemingly has AI on board. However that remains to be seen as it's not released.
I also fully expect prices to go up. They'll use the pandemic excuse everybody is but they'll never drop prices back down once supply improves. Quote
