MSI's RTX 3090 Ti SUPRIM X is a 480W beast
With Nvidia's RTX 3090 Ti graphics cards, higher power requirements are becoming normalised. At 480 watts, MSI's leaked ( via Videocardz ) RTX 3090 Ti SUPRIM model is a power-hungry GPU, and that means that the graphics card needs a beefier cooling setpp than its predecessor.
With 10,752 CUDA cores, 21Gbps GDDR6X memory, and boost clock speeds as high as 1,950 MHz, MSI's RTX 3090 Ti SUPRIM X will be one of the most powerful graphics cards on the market. The GPU has more CUDA cores and higher memory speeds than its RTX 3090 series counterpart, and it also has a thicker 3.5-slot cooling solution.
While on the surface, MSI's RTX 3090 Ti SUPRIM X looks like its predecessor, there are several aspects of the graphics card that have changed in major ways. We have already mentioned that the graphics card is thicker, with the RTX 3090 SUPRIM X being a 3-slot graphics card, but the GPU's RTX 3090 Ti counterpart also uses the new 16-pin PCIe power standard. This power standard requires the use of a new power supply that is 16-pin compatible, or an 3x 8-pin to 16-pin power adapter.
With a power target of 480 watts, MSI's RTX 3090 Ti is reportedly consuming 30 watts more than Nvidia's reference RTX 3090 Ti design, and 60 watts more than MSI's 420W RTX 3090 SUPRIM X model. That increased power target is reflected in MSI's beefed up cooling solution, which uses the same fan configuration as its predecessor and a thicker stack of cooling fins. Additionally, the lack of a 3x 8-pin power setup also gives this new graphics card more unobstructed sideward ventilation space.
MSI's RTX 3090 Ti SUPRIM X is a 2.1 kg graphics card, making this graphics card very heavy. Videocardz has reported that Nvidia's RTX 3090 Ti is launching on March 29th.
