Is Call of Duty returning to Steam?

For many years now, Activision Blizzard's PC games have been available exclusively on the company's Battle.net launcher. Before that, Activision's games were available through Steam, the most popular PC gaming client. Now, it looks like Call of Duty may be returning to Steam, as artwork for Call of Duty; Modern Warfare 2 has been found on Valve's PC gaming client.

This splash art, which is shown below, was first discovered by Reddit user Kalinine , and after this discovery, the artwork was quickly pulled from Steam. Now, a blank image appears in its place.

The artwork that appeared on Steam was recently revealed as part of Modern Warfare II's official " artwork reveal ", which confirmed that Modern Warfare 2 would be releasing this year on October 28th. At this time, Activision Blizzard has not revealed which platforms Modern Warfare 2 will be releasing on.

In recent years, more and more publisher have been bringing their PC game releases back to Steam, with Microsoft, and EA being the two largest examples. Microsoft is currently working to acquire Activision Blizzard, a move which would likely bring Activision Blizzard's games to Steam at some point in the future (if their deal closes), but now it looks like Activision Blizzard are already moving in that direction.

Will all Activision Blizzard games come to Steam?

If Call of Duty returns to Steam, it is likely that other Activision Blizzard games will follow suit. That said, it is hard to see Blizzard games like World of Warcraft moving away from Blizzard's Battle.net launcher, as I don't see Blizzard wanting to share its World of Warcraft revenues with Valve. Even so, stranger things have happened.
