Newest RTX Cards Claimed To Have Big Speed
By now we're all eagerly anticipating the latest graphics cards from Nvidia, their 4000 range of cards.
Rumours are flying about their capabilities, and courtesy of someone who has been reliable before, Kopite7Kimi on Twitter, we have some numbers which not only prove interesting, but genuinely eye-opening.
Starting with the main event, the RTX 4090, it's claimed to have 16384 CUDA Cores, a big increase over the 10496 CUDA Cores that exist on the RTX 3090. However, it's the clock speeds that really have us interested. As anyone who owns a current 3000 series Nvidia card will know, Nvidia are actually surprisingly cautious when it comes to making boost clock claims and in actuality the cards run a fair whack quicker in your system than they do on paper. So sit down and strap in when the RTX 4090 is alleged to have a base clock of 2235 MHz and a boost clock of 2520 MHz. If Nvidia's understatement continues in to their next generation then we think nearer 2800 MHz is probably on the cards with a good cooler. More CUDA Cores and more clock speed with 24GB GDDR6X? Where do we sign?
Claims are also made regarding the two mainstream models; the Nvidia RTX 4080 and RTX 4070, with 10240 CUDA Cores on the 4080 and 7168 on the 4070, although the RTX 4080 is expected to have a mere -ha!- 16GB of GDDR6X and the RTX 4070 has to make do with 10GB of GDDR6.
Now we know that these are unconfirmed figures, but the account involved has previous for being on the money. If the clock speed numbers alone are around the claims, without taking in to account any architectural changes, then these cards could be absolute monsters. You will require a beefy PSU to take advantage of them with even the RTX 4070 expected to be a 300W card, and the ones above it living over the 400W mark.
