Intel Core i9-13900KF CPU reaches 6.18 GHz with liquid chiller attached in new overclocking test

Intel Core i9-13900KF overclocked to 6.18 GHz thanks to exotic cooling

Extreme Player is back with another test of the flagship Intel Raptor Lake-S CPUs.

This is not the first test of unreleased hardware from Extreme Player, we have already seen his coverage of Core i9-13900K as well as Core i7- 13700K and i5-13600K . All of these are preproduction samples that will not provide the same experience to final products. In fact, even the QS (Qualification Sample) used for this overclocking test has different capability than ES1.

This time around EP is testing Core i9-13900KF (without graphics) QS, so a preproduction sample. The processor has been attached to a liquid loop chiller, so a highly capable cooling solution that should theoretically provide some headroom for additional performance. According to EP tests, such cooling solution provides stable overclock from 5.8 to 6.18 GHz, as verified by multiple tests.

We have already seen the Core i9-13900K running at 6.0 GHz and performing a CPU-Z test. In this case, the clock speed goes even higher.

In CPU-Z the CPU reaches as high as 6.18 GHz with all eight Performance cores and 4.69 GHz with all sixteen Efficient cores. This clock could only be observed in CPU-Z test where the processor scored 1011 points so just 1 point higher than previously tested i7-13700K @ 6.18 GHz. In tests such as Cinebench R23 the all-core speed drops to 5.8 GHz.

For this Qualification Sample memory frequency support is lower than on ES1 (Engineering Sample 1) as tested on MSI Z690I Unify motherboard. The sample won’t boot with DDR5-8000 or even DDR5-7840 does not work in memory test. At least the APEX+QS combo reportedly works at 7400 Mbps.

Intel is now set to launch its Raptor Lake-S CPUs in October, following an official announcement in late September. The 13th Gen Core series are set to compete directly with AMD Ryzen 7000 series which are to launch on the same day as Intel unveils Raptor Lake CPUs (September 27th).
