The Xenia Xbox 360 Emulator can now play Red Dead Redemption at 60+ FPS on PC
Red Dead Redemption is not available on PC, but that has not stopped PC gamers from playing the PS3/Xbox 360 classic on the platform. Emulators for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are improving at an impressive pace, and the latest canary builds of the Xenia Xbox 360 emulator is now good enough to play Red Dead Redemption on PC at 60+ FPS, even during demanding town/city scenes.
Thanks to the Emulators and Gameplay HD YouTube channel, we have gotten a look at Red Dead Redemption playing on a modern PC through Xenia using an Intel i9-12900K processor and an Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti graphics card. Red Dead Redemption was played using an FPS unlocking patch to enable framerates above 30 FPS, and the game was played using both and old build and a new canary build of Xenia ( Build 6bc3191b9 to be exact ).
In a demanding town scene, Red Dead Redemption's framerates using Xenia improved from around 35 FPS to around 76 FPS and in less demanding scenes, framerates of over 100 FPS were possible using Xenia. It is possible that the whole of Red Dead Redemption may now be playable at over 60 FPS on a high-end gaming PC, which is a big deal for PC gamers given the fact that Rockstar hasn't created an official PC version of the game.
Sadly, we cannot comment on the overall stability of Xenia's latest canary build, or if Red Dead Redemption is playable from start to finish using the emulator. All we know is that Xenia's performance has increased significantly, and that similar performance gains may be seen in other emulated Xbox titles.
