KOTOR's remake now has a new developer - Embracer confirms
Following rumours that Aspyr has been moved away from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, the Embracer Group has confirmed that a AAA game of their now has a new developer. Currently, the Embracer Group does not expect this AAA game project to be delayed, though this seem unlikely.
Rumour has it that Aspyr's demo for Knights of the Old Republic Remake was not up to the quality standards that were expected by Lucasfilm, and that the game's development had been moved to Saber Interactive.
The Embracer Group's Knights of the Old Republic Remake is reportedly undergoing some major changes, with Jason Schreier , a videogame reporter, claiming that the KOTOR Remake is years away and needs a lot of work. He also expects delays due to the game's change in developer, as the process of switching a game's developer is not done "seamlessly".
Our publishers will announce many new games in the coming period, including multiple full game announcements at Gamescom next week. One of the Group’s AAA projects has transitioned to another studio within the Group. This was done to ensure the quality bar is where we need it to be for the title. We are not expecting any material delays for the title based on this transition.
Why is Saber Interactive rumoured to be KOTOR's new developer?
Saber Interactive has already been working on Embracer's Knights of the Old Republic Remake as a support studio, which means that staff at Saber Interactive are already familiar with the project. This factor allows Saber Interactive to work on the remake without reworking everything from scratch or taking a lot of development time to assess and understand the work that was previously done by Aspyr.
While the Embracer Group has not confirmed that Saber Interactive have taken over the development of their Knights of the Old Republic Remake, that possibility seems very likely.
