NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 might get a 8GB variant, RTX 3060Ti with GDDR6X memory

NVIDIA RTX 3060, RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti updates

NVIDIA might be working on three new RTX 30 graphics cards.

The latest report from MEGAsizeGPU, who is indeed very active this week, mentions three new variants of GeForce RTX 30 GPUs. The leaker only claims that such models are planned, but it is not clear when they might launch.

RTX 3060 getting 8GB memory spec

Starting with GeForce RTX 3060 which is to receive an 8 GB variant, so 4 GB less than current specs. Lower memory size also means narrower bus of 128-bit and lower bandwidth of 240 GB/s (120 GB/s slower than 12 GB model). If this card is indeed planned, then we should hear an update from NVIDIA officially soon.

Upcoming RTX30 lineup:

3060 8G
GA106 128bit 8GD6

3060Ti D6X
GA104 256bit 8GD6X

3070Ti
GA102 256bit 8GD6X

RTX 3070 Ti with GA104 GPU

When it comes to other SKUs, though, things aren’t that clear. According to the rumor, the RTX 3070 Ti may appear with GA102 GPU at some point in the future. Interestingly, not with GA103 GPU, which would make a lot more sense here, but one should also note that this GPU is already used for desktop RTX 3060 Ti.

Now, just assuming that this card would have just as many CUDA cores as the original GA104-based model (6144), this means 4608 cores would have to be disabled on NVIDIA’s biggest die. Such configuration certainly won’t be as power efficient as the original.

RTX 3060 Ti with GDDR6X memory

Finally, there is a mention of NVIDIA’s most popular mid-range GPU, the RTX 3060 Ti, which is said to be getting a GDDR6X treatment. One shouldn’t expect a major spec upgrade elsewhere, but G6X memory alone would almost certainly mean higher bandwidth but also higher power consumption.

There is currently no launch date for any of these cards, nor have any other leakers mentioned that such SKUs are planned. We are in a process of confirming this information with our sources.
