China posts surprise growth in September manufacturing

SHANGHAI -- China posted a surprise expansion in factory activity in September, reversing months of declines despite the impact of repeated COVID-19 lockdowns and weakening exports.

The manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) ticked up to 50.1 from 49.4 in August, rising above the 50-point mark that separates contraction from expansion, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
