NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 Series memory configurations
We recently covered a rumor that NVIDIA might add a 20GB model to its upcoming GeForce RTX Ampere lineup. It appears that we have an update from the first person who made such a claim.
According to the most recent Wjm47196 post , NVIDIA might launch 24GB, 20GB and 10GB variants featuring either 384-bit or 320-bit memory buses. The exact wording from the leaker is that this has been confirmed. It appears that there is currently no trace of the 16GB model for this board design (that would be GA102).

Right now, the main focus is on the 20GB model. This SKU is believed to be either RTX 3090 or RTX 3080 Ti. It has previously been rumored to feature 16GB or 11GB memory. An upgrade to 20GB would certainly be a major change.
Additionally, NVIDIA is also planning 16GB and 8GB models based on a 256-bit bus. This of course would be the GA104 board design for RTX 3070 series. The higher memory capacity could be reserved either for the SUPER model or the Quadro series.
Multiple sources have confirmed that the series will introduce GDDR6X memory, however, we are unable to find any reference to such memory technology on manufacturers’ websites.

The leaker also commented on recent rumors about NVIDIA artificially capping performance for the review samples. We can’t imagine any reason for NVIDIA to do such a thing, so we are quite confident that this rumor is untrue. He also touched upon a topic of NVIDIA launching higher-spec’ed models later, aka the SUPER variants. The history might repeat itself and next year we should expect GA1xx graphics cards with slightly better specifications.
