NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 goes up to 3135 MHz with 493W peak power consumption

NVIDIA RTX 40 GPU can reach 3.135 GHz clock, shows newly leaked screenshot

According to the screenshots shared by hardware leaker wnxod, the RTX 4090 may easily reach high frequencies with relatively small power increase.

There are two screenshots shared by the leaker, both showing TechPowerUP GPU-Z Sensor tab with details on the undisclosed graphics card. However, given that there is only one gaming card that has a TDP of 450W, it is relatively easy to guess it’s RTX 4090 GPU.

The first screenshot shows a default clock of 2730 MHz, which from what we gathered so far is a typical clock to be seen in most synthetic tests and gaming. However, the clock speed will vary depending on the intensity of the graphics settings and resolutions, so it may still go lower or higher. Unfortunately, wnxod did not confirm what was being tested in this particular example.

What is confirmed though is that the card reached 65.6°C with a hot spot reaching 73.4°C, and that’s with a current power reading of 446.9W. This means we are looking at stock settings with default TDP of 450W. The fan speed reading for two fans shows 1652/1653 RPM, which is a 40% of maximum fan speed.

The second screenshot is a bit more interesting because it shows a peak GPU clock of 3135 MHz, thus far the highest frequency shown in any leak regarding the RTX 4090. The temperature has only slightly increased to a peak at 68.2°C. Furthermore, it shows that the peak power consumption of the whole card was 492.8W, so less than 50W more than in the previous screenshots.

There are a few things to note, however. First, we do not know what workload was used, it could just as well be some ancient gaming benchmark that has very low GPU use. Second, the real-time values are not shown here, so we can only see peak. Also keep in mind that 50.6 MHz memory clock and hot spot temperature of 40.3°C are minimum values, not the maximum.
