BEIJING -- China kicks off its top leadership meeting on Sunday at the twice-a-decade national congress in Beijing where Communist Party officials will chart the country's path for years to come.

The weeklong gathering comes as Beijing grapples with a sputtering economy, increasingly hostile relations with Washington and a partnership with Russia that appears to be turning into a liability as Moscow faces a protracted war in Ukraine.
