Intel launches 13th Gen Core series: up to 24 cores and 5.8 GHz clock

Today, Intel formally introduces Raptor Lake, the upgraded desktop series for LGA1700 socket.

As many as six new processors are introduced today, featuring 14, 16 and 24 cores with hybrid architecture combining Efficient and Performance cores on a single die.

Intel Raptor Lake architecture is designed to offer twice as many Efficient cores as Alder Lake. A configuration of 16 Efficient cores and 8 Performance cores will be available with Core i9-13900K CPU, the flagship model from the new series. This SKU will also boost up to 5.8 GHz, making it the fastest desktop CPU Intel has ever released. This processor will cost at least $589, which is the price for 1000 units for distributors. Intel is also releasing a KF variant which lacks integrated graphics for $564.

The Core i7-13700K will see 8 Performance cores combined with 8 Efficient cores. This 16-core CPU will boost up to 5.4 GHz, and it will also be available with and without integrated graphics. Both models will cost $410 to $384 respectively.

The 14-core Core i5-13600K gets 6 Performance cores and 8 Efficient cores. Intel’s mid-range Raptor Lake CPU is to boost up to 5.1 GHz. The cheapest Raptor Lake CPUs (thus far) will cost $319 (K) and $294 (KF).

All K and KF-series SKUs will have a default TDP of 125W, while their boost power will vary from 181W (Core i5 and i7) to 253W (Core i9). Today, Intel is also releasing its high-end Z790 motherboard series, however all Raptor Lake CPUs will be compatible with existing 600-series motherboards as well.
