Ultra-wide monitors will soon push past 4K resolutions

Expect Samsung to reveal an 8K ultrawide display at CES 2023
During the company's RDNA 3 GPU reveal, AMD confirmed that their Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT graphics cards would support DisplayPort 2.1, a new standard that would enable the creation of high refresh rate 8K monitors and ultra high refresh rate 4K displays. To sell the importance of DisplayPort 2.1, AMD also stated that Samsung plans to reveal a DisplayPort 2.1 compatible ultrawide monitor at CES 2023.
Samsung's next-generation Odyssey Neo G9 monitor will launch with DisplayPort 2.1 support, an 8K horizontal resolution and support for AMD's FreeSync variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. Currently, we expect this screen to feature a resolution of 2160 x 7680, making it a dual-wide 8K monitor.
With DisplayPort 2.1, Samsung's planned 8K Odyssey G9 monitor could support refresh rates as high a 240Hz, making it an absurdly fast ultrawide gaming monitor. In terms of raw pixel count, this screen will have half as many pixels as a proper 8K display, which would have a 4320 x 7680 pixel grid.

Samsung plans to officially reveal their "8K" Odyssey G9 display at CES 2023 in January. We expect to receive full specifications for this new gaming-oriented ultra-wide monitor at CES.
