Nvidia's RTX 4070 Ti is reportedly launching in January with Nvidia's RTX 4080 12GB specifications

Mere weeks after Nvidia revealed their RTX 40 series of graphics cards, the company was forced to "unlaunch" their planned RTX 4080 12GB graphics card. Simply put, their RTX 4080 12GB did not deliver performance levels that were in any way close to their RTX 4080 16GB, a factor that made Nvidia's naming scheme seem downright misleading.

In Nvidia's own benchmarks, the company's RTX 4080 12GB could deliver performance levels that were 25% worse than an RTX 4080 16GB, with the GPU's performance gap being larger in some instances. In the eyes of consumers, Nvidia's RTX 4080 12GB was not an RTX 4080 class product, and its performance was too far away from their RTX 4080 16GB to use the same RTX 4080 naming scheme.

Now, rumour has it that Nvidia plans to rebrand their RTX 4080 12GB as their RTX 4070 Ti, with plans to launch this new graphics card in January at a lower price. This lower pricing is expected due to the competitiveness of AMD's Radeon RX 7900 series, and the fact that their RTX 4070 Ti is no longer has the premium RTX 4080 name.

Nvidia's RTX 4070 Ti is expected to have the same specifications as their RTX 4080, giving the GPU 12GB of GDDR6X memory and 7680 CUDA cores.
