Godot 4.0 Beta 5 Brings Renderer Improvements, OpenGL To OpenXR

In addition to Godot 4.0 adding a movie maker mode , some additional news for this popular open-source game engine this week is the debut of Godot 4.0 Beta 5.

Today's Godot 4.0 Beta 5 release brings more enhancements to this increasingly-used, cross-platform and open-source game engine. On top of the movie maker mode, Vulkan renderer, and plethora of other changes introduced already for Godot 4.0 , some of the additional changes premiering in Godot 4.0 Beta 5 include:

- Support for SVG emoji fonts with the Godot GUI.

- Improved WebP import code.

- Godot on Linux will now load GLX support dynamically using GLAD. This is part of the Godot effort for supporting nice Wayland/X11 inter-operation with this game engine.

- Peer authentication support has been added to the default Godot Multiplayer API.

- Godot will default to the OpenGL 3.x driver when using the project manager.

- Support for 2D shadows and canvas SDF (Signed Distance Field) has been added to the OpenGL 3 renderer along with GPUParticles.

- Support for the Godot OpenGL renderer to OpenXR.

- Various rendering issues have been fixed.

- Various Godot Editor improvements.
