TAIPEI -- In a key race in local elections held across Taiwan on Saturday, the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) retook the mayorship of its traditional stronghold of Taipei.

Chiang Wan-an, who is said to be the illegitimate great-grandson of former dictator Chiang Kai-shek, won the race for the capital after the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) conceded defeat.
