HONG KONG -- Billionaire Bill Ackman has added his name to a list of prominent short-sellers betting against the Hong Kong dollar.

The American hedge fund investor thinks the currency's peg to the U.S. dollar will crumble, triggering a plunge in its value. But this is not the first time that short-sellers have tried -- and failed -- to profit from bets that the decades-old peg would snap.
