There isn't too much interest in Solaris these days and the once vibrant open-source (Open)Solaris community is a small fraction of its past, but OpenIndiana Hipster continues pushing forward as the operating system forked from OpenSolaris and now serves as a distribution derived from the Illumos code-base.

OpenIndiana Hipster 2022.10 was released this weekend with a variety of package updates to this Solaris-based platform. This routine update to OpenIndiana brings updated Intel and AMD CPU microcode, enhancements to the Bhyve hypervisor, initial support for mounting the install media via NFS, updated NVIDIA proprietary drivers, MATE 1.26 for its default deskotp environment, and a wealth of package updates.

For the past decade now Openindiana has been persevering where OpenSolaris left off following Oracle's unfortunate acquisition of Sun Microsystems.

Among the many package updates in OpenIndiana Hipster 2022.10 are LibreOffice 7.2.7, Firefox and Thunderbird on their newest ESR versions, Perl 5.36, updating the GCC 10 point release and pulling in GCC-11 as an option, and LLVM Clang 13 is also available as another compiler option with this OpenIndiana update.
