FreeBSD 12.4 largely consists of a wide variety of bug fixes and other maintenance work on this open-source BSD operating system. It's been nearly one year to the day since FreeBSD 12.3 and thus a lot of contributed software has been updated as well as pulling in various kernel fixes.
Some of the FreeBSD 12.4 highlights include:
- FreeBSD's pf kernel framework has seen memory leak fixes and other improvements.
- FreeBSD's random driver will now prefer RDSEED over RDRAND when available as per Intel guidance.
- Various other memory leak fixes, bug fixes, and other maintenance work within the FreeBSD keernel code.
- Fixes to cp, nfsd, usbconfig, and other user-space utilities.
- Updates to bundled software like OpenSSL 1.1.1q, OpenSSH 9.1p1, SQLite 3.39.3, and other software.
