Intel confirms Sapphire Rapids “HEDT” workstation CPUs are coming ‘pretty soon’

Intel Sapphire Rapids-WS coming soon

Intel is now teasing its new workstation CPU series codenamed Sapphire Rapids.

Are next-gen workstation CPUs coming sooner than we thought? The new teaser video from Intel appears to show exactly that. According to a short exchange between alleged Intel employees, the company will launch the new series ‘pretty soon’.

This teaser would be an indication that Intel Sapphire Rapids for workstations may see the light sooner than rumored February next year. In fact, the actual launch of the new HEDT series was expected to be as late as end of Q1 and start of Q2. The company claims that the final validation tests are now coming back, and they are ‘really good’.

Intel 4th Gen Xeon-WS series are to feature up to 56 cores and TDPs up to 350W. This new W790 platform features a brand-new socket known as LGA-4677. This platform will support both the DDR5 memory technology and PCIe Gen5 interface. It is said that the higher-end W-3400 CPUs will support up to 112 PCIe lanes and octa-channel DDR5-4800 memory, while the W-2400 series will be limited to 64 lanes and quad-channel memory support. In the video we can actually see a mid-tower PC likely equipped with Intel’s new W790 workstation board designed for the new CPU series.

Intel Sapphire Rapids-WS codenamed “Fishhawk Falls” is considered Intel’s long-overdue response to AMD Threadripper PRO series. Both companies have transformed their enthusiast products lines into workstation/content creator platforms serving as a bridge between consumer and data-center products.
