A Shark and a Sneaker: Oddities from the Cooler Master CES Booth

PC casing, power, and cooling giants like Cooler Master, In Win, Thermaltake, etc., tend to sign off their trade-show booths with a few novelty cases that are manufactured in limited quantities, and showcase the engineering and artistic muscle of their design teams. Cooler Master brought not one, but two such cases to the 2023 International CES, with the Shark-X and Sneaker-X.

The Shark-X is the bolder engineering and design feat of the two, it's literally a cybernetic shark in a Portal/Oblivion/Bladerunner kind of glossy white+black aesthetic. The shark-shaped superstructure is suspended on a stand, with its heavy base doubling up as a lighting source. The whole thing measures 737 mm x 894 mm x 908 mm (LxWxH, it's huge!); but functionally it holds a Mini-ITX motherboard, with room for graphics cards up to 33.5 cm in length, an SFX power supply, and a 120 mm radiator. Meanwhile, the Sneaker X is just that—a giant red case designed to look like a sneaker. There are some moving parts, as the top flap opens up to give you easier access to the hardware inside. Measuring 650 mm x 265 mm x 355 mm (LxWxH), it's fairly big, and only holds a Mini-ITX motherboard, but is slightly more roomy, with space for a 30 cm video card, an SFX power supply, but a much larger 360 mm radiator.
