EPYC 9654 is twice as fast as Core i9-13900KS

PassMark database has now been updated with AMD’s latest Zen4 desktop CPU.

AMD’s first “Genoa” processor is now listed in PassMark “High End CPU” ranking. The EPYC 9654 a 96-core processor with 192 threads based on AMD’s newest Zen4 architecture. This is currently AMD’s flagship EPYC processor.

Officially this CPU offers a base clock of 2.4 GHz and boost up to 3.7 GHz. It is therefore not as fast as Threadripper 5990WX clock-wise, which boosts up to 4.5 GHz, but with higher core count this EPYC CPU easily crosses 100K points, outclassing every other processor in the ranking.

The EPYC 9654 is faster than 64-core EPYC 7773X based on updated Zen3 Milan-X architecture. With a score of 124K points, Genoa CPU is 36.8% faster than Milan-X. It also twice as fast as Core i9-13900KS consumer CPU with 24 cores and 6 GHz max clock which was released earlier this month.

This Genoa processor has been released in November last year. It is based on updated Zen4 architecture officially delivering a 14% IPC increase over successor. New CPU series require an entirely new platform with new SP5 socket and DDR5-4800 memory support.

AMD is already working on Genoa-X series which are set to launch later this year. The series will feature up to 96 Zen4 cores, and as confirmed by AMD, the size of L3 cache will exceed 1 GB.
