Myanmar military receives Japan aid for bridge construction

BANGKOK -- Japan's Yokogawa Bridge has paid a company linked to Myanmar's military approximately $1.3 million for a bridge project built with foreign aid, Human Rights Watch reported Tuesday.

The payment was made to Myanmar Economic Corp., one of two major holding companies under military control. The Bago River Bridge is being built with official development assistance from Japan, with MEC involvedĀ as a subcontractor.
