Intel Granite Rapids CPUs could be 1.7x bigger than Sapphire Rapids

Intel’s Granite shows ‘Rapid’ growth

The LGA-7529 socket that has been leaked earlier this week is measured to be significantly bigger than current Xeon CPU.

According to SkyJuice60 (Angstronomics) and YuuKi_AnS photos, the new socket called 7529 not only will offer 61% more pins than current LGA-4677 platform for Sapphire/Emerald Rapids, but it will also be significantly larger. The package die area is estimated to be 105×70.5 mm, which means an increase of 70% compared to current Xeon series.

Next generation Xeon platform codenamed “Birch Stream-AP” is expected to support two products, namely Granite Rapids and Sierra Forest. Both products would use the same socket, but they would offer vastly different core architecture. The former would be based on Performance cores while the latter would use Efficient cores exclusively.

Here's a side-by-side of its socket next to Sapphire Rapids, which it absolutely dwarfs.
LGA 7529 has the same 37 Mil hex array as LGA 4677, just with 61% more pins.

According to the rumors, Granite Rapids may offer 128 cores (Redwood+ Cove), while Sierra Forest at least 334 smaller cores (core name was not confirmed yet). Intel is reportedly developing even more powerful variants, however information on such designs is still very limited.

Some details on Granite/Sierra successors were recently shared by Moore’s Law is Dead, who claims that Diamond Rapids will be accompanied by a product series known as “Clearwater Forest”. This would be a Sierra successor based on a next-generation E-Core implementation.
