U.S. fund manager VanEck pauses China retail project: sources

HONG KONG -- U.S. fund manager VanEck has paused efforts to set up a wholly owned company for retail investors in China even as regulators there appear to be stepping up approvals for foreign financial players to expand in the market.

VanEck has already waited more than two years since it officially submitted its application with the China Securities and Regulatory Commission (CSRC) in October 2020.
