No more 3 GHz iGPU clocks on Ryzen 7040HS

It has been reported that AMD updated product pages for its mobile Ryzen 7040 series, codenamed Phoenix.

AMD Phoenix could be the most interesting Ryzen laptop silicon this year. Not only does it feature Zen4 microarchitecture, it also comes with RDNA3 integrated graphics. What is important to note is that unlike desktop Raphael and its mobile Dragon Range HX variant that ship with only 2 Compute Units, those RDNA3 graphics will be a lot more powerful, featuring up to 12 Compute Units.

At CES 2023 AMD announced it will have three Ryzen 7040HS SKUs: 7940HS, 7840HS and 7640HS. Those are 35-54W models with up to 8 CPU cores and either 12 or 8 RDNA3 units. Shortly after the event, AMD updated its product pages to confirm the full specs for each of those SKUs. This is where we learned that RDNA3 iGPUs will go up to 3.0 GHz clocks.

It has been noticed that AMD has now lowered the iGPU clocks for each of these parts by 200 MHz:

• Ryzen 9 7940HS : 3.0 GHz → 2.8 GHz
• Ryzen 7 7840HS : 2.9 GHz → 2.7 GHz
• Ryzen 5 7640HS : 2.8 GHz → 2.6 GHz

What should be noted, however, is that at the same time AMD confirmed the specs of the Ryzen 7040H series. The specs are listed only on the Chinese AMD website with regional availability set only for this country. Those parts have the same clocks as the original 7000HS parts, so up to 3.0 GHz clocks for 7940HS.

Now, this is not the first time AMD updated the Phoenix series specs. In fact, many months before launch, AMD confirmed that the Phoenix series will support PCIe Gen5 interface. This is no longer the case, as confirmed by the specs above.

The sooner AMD launches its Ryzen 7000HS series the better. The closer we get to the launch, the further adjustments are applied to the product specs, and none of them seems to go into a better direction. Officially, the Ryzen 7040 series launch in March.
