AMD Radeon 780M has again been tested in 3DMark

Moore’s Law is Dead has new score for power capped Radeon 780M integrated GPU.

Exactly one month ago, the first 3DMark scores for Ryzen 9 7940HS Phoenix integrated graphics processors have been shared by Chinese media. As we get closer to the launch of these new series, more benchmark results start to leak.

According to the screenshot shared by the YouTuber, Ryzen 7 7840SHS (AMD OPN Code: 100-000000964) scores 259X points when being power limited to 25W. That’s an improvement from 2486 points as reported last month. What is important to note is that this is Ryzen 7 7840HS, not Ryzen 9 7940HS, so the graphics clock is actually lower, yet the score is 4% higher.

The integrated Radeon 780M GPU is based will offer 12 Compute Units, just as many as the last-gen Rembrandt Zen3+ CPU. However, the new processor will get upgraded to RDNA3 architecture over RDNA2 present in the last-gen model. Furthermore, there will be a slight improvement in clock speeds, going up to 2.8 GHz for the fastest HS model, and 2.7 GHz for the APU tested.

One should note that AMD has recently been caught modifying the specs for the Phoenix HS series, now listed with 200 MHz lower clocks. This is not the case for the 7040H variants though that are still listed with GPU clocks up to 3.0 GHz.

The AMD Ryzen 7040HS series would make a viable upgrade path for handheld gaming consoles. It is expected that the integrated GPU may provide around 30% improvement over last been while being limited to 25W. Unfortunately, AMD has not revealed any 15W Phoenix APU that would make this possible, while the 25W default TDP may seem too high for battery-powered devices.
