There is a very popular thread on Reddit featuring a picture of one of the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. But this is not a story from a happy user because the CPU in question died. The processor has suddenly burned out and there is now a small budge on the CPU. Unfortunately for this user, the CPU is no longer operational and so is the expensive motherboard.

It looks like this case is no isolated and most cases of this kind have one thing in common, and that’s the ASUS motherboard. It is said that the company has recently pulled down the latest BIOS, possibly to avoid any potential problems for users. However, it is said that the ASUS voltage regulator mechanism might be to blame. Russian YouTuber and technician Vik-Off had a similar problem with Ryzen 9 7950X3D on ASUS ROG motherboard recently:

Interestingly, all CPUs that were affected by sudden burn out had the defect in the same spot. It appears to be the exact spot where the 3D V-Cache chiplet is located, so the rumors about extensive voltage going through this chiplet might have some ground for further investigation.

And speaking of investigations, Redditor’s story has a happy end. Popular Tech-YouTuber GamersNexus offered to buy the CPU from the user and repay the full retail price for it. Not only that, the YouTuber will buy both the CPU and motherboard, so the RMA process will not be necessary.
