Intel Meteor Lake-S still present in Linux kernel development

The Linux dev team unbothered by the recent rumors about Meteor Lake-S cancelation.

A new pin controller patch for the Linux kernel adds Meteor Lake-S product support among other things. This update comes just as Intel is expected to announce its new desktop series based on an updated Raptor Lake silicon in the coming weeks, possibly in September. The Refresh of the current series may remain the only option for desktop users, in fact, even Intel did not mention any plans for Meteor Lake desktop chips in the official brand and naming explanatory leaflet .

According to Phoronix , the Meteor Lake-S patch has been added to the upcoming Linux 6.5 code, a pin controller to be specific. Given that there is nothing suggesting a possible launch at this point, it is unclear why this codename would be still around. But since nobody said anything official, it’s possible that the information that was leaked may not tell the whole story.

Technically, it is possible that some variants of Meteor Lake could still find their way into the desktop platform at some point. Or maybe Intel’s just keeping a door open in case such an architecture ends up being offered alongside future Arrow Lake CPUs for the LGA-1851 socket.

Nevertheless, one should not outright assume that MTL-S is canceled, as there is clearly something going on with the drivers.
