FSR 3 is coming, and its integration into HYPR-RX should have Nvidia worried

Alongside their Radeon RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT reveal ( read more about that here ), AMD has revealed a lot of new information about their new FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 technology, which promised to take games to the next level with "AMD Fluid Motion Frames".

AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution technology has evolved a lot, from FSR 1 to FSR 2 and now to FSR 3. Every generation of FidelityFX Super Resolution finds a new way to enable higher performance levels in modern games. Previous incarnations of FSR delivered this though upscaling, but FSR 3 differs from its predecessors as it aims to add entirely new frames into the mix, what AMD calls "Fluid Motion Frames".

AMD has confirmed that FSR 3 will be usable on all modern graphics cards, including GPUs from their competitors. FSR 3 will also be available to gamers on consoles, with AMD specifically mentioning Xbox support.

With FSR 3, AMD has showcased Forspoken running with an almost 4x framerate boost by using FSR 3 in performance mode. This performance mode likely utilises FSR 2 in Performance mode alongside AMD's FSR 3 Fluid Motion Frames technology to add additional frames into the mix.

If gamers do not want to use upscaling and fluid motion frames at the same time, AMD has also introduced a new "Native" resolution mode with FSR 3. This mode uses AMD's FSR technology as anti-aliasing, eliminating FSR's upscaling component to deliver higher levels of image quality. With FSR 3's Fluid Motion Frames and Native FSR anti-aliasing, AMD has showcased a 65% performance boost.

AMD has confirmed that FSR 3 is coming to a lot of upcoming games, including Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Wukong, and more. Existing games like Cyberpunk 2077, Forspoken, and Immortals of Aveum will also be updated to support FSR 3.

Alongside game support, AMD has also revealed strong partner support for FSR 3, with Square Enix, Ubisoft, Saber Interactive, and many more pledging to support the technology.

Driver level FSR 3?

AMD has also confirmed that their Fluid Motion Frames tech is coming to their AMD Software drivers with AMD HYPR-RX, with AMD promising "broad game support", and "instant performance". We plan to test this feature as soon as AMD launches it.

Fluid Motion Frames will be usable in all DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 games to double or triple your game's framerate as part of HYPR-RX. This feature will be coming to AMD's drivers by the end of Q1 2024.

AMD has confirmed that FSR 3 will be coming to games starting this fall, with patches coming to Immortals of Aveum, and Forspoken first.

No word on GPU support?

Will it be hardware agnostic as FSR and FSR2 were? And how well will it work if at all on actually old GPUs like RX 480 or so Quote

It will be hardware agnostic. Unsure how well it will work on older GPUs, but it will work on a lot of kit. It will even work on consoles. Quote

It's gonna be great if I can make that run some modern games well, I might begin carrying it on trips given it's way lighter and smaller than my main laptop, altough my brother might have something to say about it since it's basically his laptop as I rarely use it. Quote

I would also imagine it is why Bethesda did not bother with DLSS in Starfield. Quote
