GUANGZHOU -- Major Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi will introduce a new operating system for its devices that offers improved integration with home appliances and electric vehicles, in a bid to stimulate slumping sales.

"We will build an OS that covers an entire ecosystem of people, cars and homes," Chairman and CEO Lei Jun wrote in a post on Chinese social media platform Weibo on Tuesday unveiling the operating system, dubbed HyperOS.
