Xe isn't being introduced yet but it's inching closer to being upstreamed, at least as an experimental option for current generation Intel graphics. Xe works with Intel Tigerlake / Gen12 graphics and newer -- both for discrete and integrated graphics -- but for current hardware the i915 kernel driver will continue to be the default.
Besides still working on some DRM scheduler patches and other preparations for introducing the Xe kernel driver to mainline, some sound patches are going into Linux 6.7 for preparing the Intel HDA sound driver.
For supporting HDMI audio and the like, the Intel HDA sound driver interfaces with the i915 kernel driver. The patches coming for Linux 6.7 are removing those explicit ties to the i915 driver to prepare for Xe.
