TOKYO -- With conflicting claims on the Israel-Hamas war flooding social media, Eliot Higgins, founder of investigative group Bellingcat, warned in an interview with Nikkei of how platforms like X can contribute to the spread of misinformation.

Higgins called Elon Musk an "absolute disaster" for X, formerly Twitter, saying the changes since the Tesla chief's acquisition of the platform "allow disinformation to spread far more quickly." Higgins also stressed the need to verify information put out by official sources.
