TUXEDO launches Sirius 16 Gen1 gaming laptop for gamers on Linux
A company specializing in laptops strictly for Linux operating system has just announced its first true gaming laptop. This system is equipped with all-AMD hardware based on the latest Zen4/RDNA3 architectures.

Users will find the Ryzen 7 7840HS Phoenix 4nm APU with 8 Zen4 cores and boost up to 5.1 GHz on the board of Sirius Gen1. This is not the highest SKU in the Ryzen 7000HS series, but the difference between 7840HS and 7940HS is just 100 MHz. Furthermore, this laptop ships with a default TDP of 54W for the APU with support for up to 80W through AMD Smart Shift technology. The company claims that 7840HS will be around 17% faster in multi-core workloads compared to predecessor called Ryzen 7 7735HS or Ryzen 7 6800H, which are essentially the same CPUs based on 6 nm Zen3+ node.
In the graphics department, we have Navi 33 based Radeon RX 7600M XT. This SKU offers a full graphics processor spec with 32 Compute Units based on RDNA3 architecture. The company claims that the GPU clock should reach 2.3 GHz with ease, thanks to 120 to 130W TGP settings. This graphics card should provide similar performance to GeForce RTX 4060 graphics with TGP of 115W.

The Sirius Gen1 uses a 16.1 inch display with 2560×1440 resolution and up to 165Hz refresh rate. The screen has a low brightness of 300 nits, but at least it has full sRGB color coverage. The full specs of this BOE panel can be found here . In terms of storage and memory, the system is equipped with two PCIe Gen4x4 M.2 SSD slots and two DDR5-5600 memory modules by default. The laptop supports up to 96GB of capacity and 8TB of storage.

The most important feature is the operating system. TUXEDO Sirius Gen1 will ship with Ubuntu and TUXEDO OS system installed. The latter is based on Ubuntu with KDE Plasma Desktop. However, the company offers its WebFAI installation software that gives users access to all supported distributions through a simple configurator. More importantly, users can also download Windows drivers.
In terms of pricing, this is a niche laptop segment, so the pricing may not look as impressive as comparable Windows systems. Users should be prepared to pay at least 1,699 EUR for the most basic configuration with 16GB DDR5-5600 memory and 500 GB Samsung 980 PCIe Gen3 storage. The system is built per order and the first shipments are expected two weeks from now.
