Xbox app Compact Mode for handhelds
Microsoft unveils new feature for smaller screens.
Microsoft is finally starting to notice the increasing popularity of Windows handhelds for gaming. The Xbox software that powers the Game Pass library is long overdue for an update. Despite receiving a major overhaul with Windows 11, the store and game management tool is still not working very well.
The new feature is not focusing on functionality but rather the design, the app will now adjust for smaller screens. The so-called Compact Mode will give better navigation and more readable design for touch controlled systems. By tapping the top-left corner of the app, users will be given a choice of selecting a new compact mode that will collapse the sidebar into icons.

Furthermore, Microsoft is working with companies like ASUS to enable this mode by defualt, which means it will run in compact mode as soon as the app is updated. There is no information about potential updates for Lenovo Legion Go, however all users will be able to use this feature as long as they are on the latest version of the application.

Microsoft is also adding Game Services Repair Tool, a special software that will address any issues related to “Gaming Services”, a common problem for many users. Honestly, the Xbox app could use more fixing tools, especially when installing games. Adding a chance to backup and move data would be helpful, without relying on Windows. Sadly, there are no updates on such features yet.
