TOKYO -- Japan will achieve wage increases that surpass the rate of inflation this year, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida vowed on Tuesday, as he outlined the government's priorities.

"We must take all possible steps to raise wages above the price hikes this year," he told the Diet, Japan's parliament, in a major policy speech. "We will achieve a society in which people take it for granted that their wages will rise."
