Switch successor no sooner than March next year
Nikkei backs up previous reports.

Recently, news circulated about Nintendo informing its partners of a change in the release date for the next-generation Switch. The handheld gaming device, introduced in 2017 with only an OLED upgrade since, is gearing up for an update.
As per reports from Nikkei , the expected launch for the Switch (2) is now slated for no earlier than March 2025 . The report further verifies that the upcoming system will boast a screen larger than the 6.2-inch display of its predecessor, coupled with a higher resolution.
Nintendo will release a successor to the Nintendo Switch game console in March 2025. Like the Switch, it is expected to be a game console that has the features of both a stationary and portable version. Many in the industry expected it to be released in 2024, but we prioritized taking measures to prevent resale and securing an initial stock of successor machines and an assortment of popular software at the time of release.
The successor model will have a larger screen than the Switch (6.2 inches for the standard model), and will be able to handle games that feature higher-definition image quality.

Earlier this month, reports from various media outlets, including Bloomberg and EuroGamer, hinted at a shift in the release schedule for the Nintendo Switch 2, pushing it to Q1 2025. While gaming systems typically aim for a holiday season release, it seems Nintendo’s focus is on delivering a solid lineup of first-party games at launch rather than rushing the system out in 2024. The company is simply allowing developers more time to deliver games for this important launch as well as allowing the supply chain to prepare large stock at launch, it is believed.
Rumors surrounding the Switch 2 suggest it will be equipped with the NVIDIA Tegra T239 processor featuring Ampere architecture. It would appear that the new Switch could end up with up to 6 times more CUDA cores, marking a significant improvement for such a gaming system.
The current model, with its 256 CUDA core Tegra X1, has already demonstrated the capability to run popular games like No Man’s Sky, The Witcher 3, and Doom, all successfully ported to the Switch.
