NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti allegedly postponed till February, RTX 3060 12GB/6GB in January

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti in February?

According to the story, NVIDIA has allegedly changed plans for its RTX 3080 Ti graphics card, the upcoming flagship considered to be a response to AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT. Ever since the RTX 30 series based on Ampere architecture was introduced, the company had plans to release a 20GB spec’ed variant of the RTX  3080 graphics card (the card launched with 10GB memory). Those plans have been scrapped as soon as AMD revealed its 16GB RX 6800 XT model

Nevertheless, despite better 4K and raytracing performance NVIDIA still has plans to release this graphics card, just a bit later. The RTX 3080 Ti graphics card was originally planned to launch in January, which we have confirmed with multiple sources. However earlier this week we received new information that the card might be delayed. While we were in a process of confirming this new development with another source, Igor has apparently heard the same thing, which we think is enough as a confirmation.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is to feature 20GB GDDR6 memory and supposedly the same CUDA core count as RTX 3090 (10496). While this card is rumored to cost around 999 USD, it would definitely offer much better performance to dollar ratio than RTX 3090, which costs at least 1499 USD

According to the story, RTX 3080 Ti will launch Chinese New Year (February 11th to 17th), likely to be late February.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12GB and 6GB

Igor also confirmed our rumors that RTX 3060 will arrive in two variants . The GA106-based model is to feature either 12GB or 6GB GDDR6 memory, depending on the SKU. The issue with these models is that both will also feature different CUDA core counts, which could be very confusing to customers. The history repeats itself, NVIDIA had already done the same thing with Pascal GTX 1060 3GB/6GB series a few years back.

What I found interesting is that Igor also confirmed what we wrote earlier, that RTX 3050 Ti will be renamed into RTX 3060 6GB. The original specs for 3050 Ti featured GA106 GPU and it appears that NVIDIA might have thought it would better fit 3060 6GB instead. NVIDIA has so far not confirmed whether it has plans for 3050 Ti, however, there is RTX  3050 non-Ti on a horizon that would feature a cut-down GA107 GPU. The Ti variant could use the full chip if it is ever released.

Both RTX 3060 models are still to launch next month. According to Igor, the 12GB model would launch around CES 2021 (Jan 11th to 14th), while the 6GB model could launch by the end of January.
