Alan Wake 2 minimum GPU requirements officially lowered to GTX 1070/RX 5600XT

Alan Wake 2 will now officially run on GTX 1070 or RX 5600 XT

The game receives optimization patch for older GPU architectures.

In the gaming community, opinions on this title vary—some label it a boring walking simulator, while others appreciate its captivating narrative and visually appealing graphics. Regardless of gamers response, it has gained popularity, and it is still among the most discussed titles. Even more so due to new optimization patch.

When the sequel came out in October 2023, it lacked support for older GPUs, those which did not have Mesh Shading support. Graphics architectures like NVIDIA GTX 10 series based on Pascal architecture actually do support DirectX12, but not the Ultimate tier which includes Mesh Shading. The game mandated use of this technology, which meant that it has not been optimized to run smoothly on Pascal and AMD RDNA1 architectures. For gamers, this meant subpar performance.

The latest 1.0.16.1 patch which has just been released brings optimizations for these architectures. It actually allowed Remedy to lower the official minimum specs, which certainly does not happen very often. It is now possible to play this game at 1080p resolution with 30 FPS with GeForce GTX 1070 and RX 5600 XT.

We've been optimizing the PC version of Alan Wake 2, and as a result the minimum PC system requirements have been lowered. Please check the updated image!

As shown in an exclusive review of this patch by Digital Foundry , the game actually runs on GTX 1060 as well, but this is not the best experience to match the 30 FPS requirement. Overall, the GTX 10 series has observed a 45% to 100% increase in framerate.

Worth noting that the requirements still call for use of DLSS/FSR technology if supported. In the case of the GTX 10 series, NVIDIA has no temporal upscaling tech available for non-RTX cards, which means FSR2 is the only option.
