Qualcomm preparing at least 8 variants of the Snapdragon X series
Up to 12 CPU cores in X Elite.
Display driver entries have revealed what Qualcomm is preparing for its Snapdragon X series launch. There are at least 8 SKUs named and at least 4 more yet undisclosed, according to this leak.
The Snapdragon X series for PCs (laptops) will feature a new architecture based on Oryon cores. According to Qualcomm, the new series of high-performance ARM processors for PCs will be using TSMC 4nm process. The company has put a lot of emphasis on the series AI performance, reaching up to 75 combined TOPS, which is much higher than AMD’s or Intel’s.
The company is yet to detail the integrated Adreno GPU details, but it is claimed it will reach 4.6 TFLOPS in single-precision compute, which should be on par with Intel’s Xe-LPG. The new platform will also support LPDDR5X-8533 memory up to 64 GB capacity, PCIe Gen4 SSDs and modern connectivity such as WiFi7 or Bluetooth 5.3. The only thing ‘missing’ in the X Series specs is support for X86 architecture, as the Qualcomm’s push is on the ARM architecture.

The X Series are to be split between Elite and Plus models. Earlier this month, the X Elite processor has made a debut on Geekbench, where the CPU scores much lower than Qualcomm’s own official scores. Either the processor was used in a low-power mode or this particular benchmark was not using the updated drivers.

The only that that was confirmed through that leak was the maximum core clock for X1E80100 of 4.3 GHz and that it uses a cluster configuration split between 4 and 8 cores. It is likely that the X Series Plus will feature either fewer cores or lower clocks. Another possible change may affect GPU and NPU performance.

Worthing adding that the driver appears to have DirectX11 and DirectX12 support already. Qualcomm is only officially confirming DirectX12 support at this time. Qualcomm did not set the launch date for its X Elite CPUs, but it would be reasonable to expect updates around Computex 2024.
