Compal reveals 2-in-1 tablet with foldable ultrasonic gaming controllers on the back

IFA has awarded the concept proposed by Compal, a concept of a tablet that has hidden controllers.

Technically speaking, these controllers are not hidden, but folded. Users can slide them open at any time, which not only turns the flat surface of the tablet into a more ergonomic design, but also allows gamers to use that grip for gaming. Turns out, the “FlexiRear Controller” is not just a piece of plastic, but a controller with ultrasonic sensors.

Gamers can tweak the touch area to suit their needs, letting them dive into games on a much bigger screen without sacrificing screen estate for input. The touch input at the back can act like virtual buttons, just hanging out at the back.

The Rover Play concept can be used with a keyboard, like any modern Windows tablet. This, combined with an optional stand, can turn the system into a normal laptop.

Compal is a known OEM laptop maker, whose designs are used by many brands; however, the Rover Play does not appear to be a real product just yet. Not one of the official ‘lifestyle’ photos show the real thing but renders. Still, an interesting idea that may or may not see the light of day at some point.
